HERBERT GEORGE WELLS, English author, died 1946

Last Will: The versatile man of letters left a gross estate of pound 59,811 (about $240,000), of which the copyright to his Outline of History and Science of Life went to his son George. He bequeathed literary copyright to his vast shelf of other works to another son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Marjorie Wells. The latter was named executor "because she is especially acquainted with the conduct of my affairs." As a finale, he wrote, "I wish to put on record my loving recognition of the good and sane behavior of all my offspring to me and each other and of the abundant interest and happiness with which they have enriched my life, and I leave them my benediction."
