Great Engineering Feats from Early Times to the Present

1800-1450 B.C. (Stonehenge--Man's 1st Celestial Observatory). This ancient monument located on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England, remained a mystery to modern man until 1963, when Gerald S. Hawkins of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory suggested that these monoliths were remnants of an astronomical calendar. (See also: Mysterious Happenings in History, Chap. 29.)
