California, Florida, and Arizona are the largest growers in the U.S. Byproducts of lemons are citric acid, used in beverage manufacturing, citrate of lime, lemon oil, and pectin, which is used for making jellies and for the treatment of intestinal disorders. In Sicily, lemon oil is used in perfumes, soap, and flavoring extracts. They have a high vitamin C content. Lemons are harsh on the teeth so rinse the mouth after consumption. Buy lemons that are heavy for their size.
