About the world country Trinidad and Tobago, its location, size, population, and who is in power.
NATIONS OF THE WORLD
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO
Location: Two main islands, northeast of Venezuela, in the Caribbean. Size: 1,981 sq. mi. (5,130 sq. km.). Population: 1,182,000 (43% black, 40% East Indian, 14% mixed).
Who Really Rules: Calling itself the Saudi Arabia of the Caribbean, Trinidad indeed is the richest Caribbean state. Not only do the islands have valuable petroleum and gas resources, but Texaco built one of the world's largest refineries there. Since the 1973 oil price jump, Trinidad has used its wealth to build its basic industry and infrastructure in partnership with foreign corporations. The multiparty parliamentary government is controlled by the conservative People's National Movement (PNM), headed by Prime Minister George Chambers. Originally a worker-based national independence movement, the PNM is now the guarantor of the middle class.
