Dec. 4, 1958. The world's longest air flight began when Robert Timm and John Cook took off from McCarran Airfield, Las Vegas, Nev., in a Cessna 172 Hacienda. Without once touching the ground, the landed back at the same airport on Feb. 7 of the following year! Their flight had lasted 64 days, 22 hours, 19 minutes, and 5 seconds. By continual airborne refueling they managed to fly the equivalent of six times around the world. | ||
