Born: Dec. 28, 1856, in Staunton, Va., the last of eight American Presidents born in Virginia. His given names were Thomas Woodrow and throughout his youth he was known as Tommy. At the age of 24, however, Wilson officially dropped his first name. His birthplace, the former Presbyterian manse in Staunton, is located at 24 North Coalter Street and is open to the public. Died: In Washington, D.C., on Feb. 3, 1924, at the age of 67. The cause of death was listed as apoplexy; Wilson had been in poor health and partially paralyzed since suffering a stroke while President in 1919. He is buried in the Washington Cathedral--the only President buried in Washington, D.C. His last words, addressed to his wife, were "Edith, I'm a broken machine, but I'm ready."
