Lore: The ancient Greeks first knew Venus as Phosphorus when it was seen as the "morning star" and Hesperus when it was seen as the "evening star." It was the philosopher Pythagoras, in the 6th century B.C., who realized the two were the same. Because of its brilliance, it has been known by all people. In Egypt it was called Bonu, in India, Asphudit. It was the Romans who named it Venus, after their goddess of love and beauty. | ||
