White House Capsule

During renovations of the White House in the Truman administration, workmen uncovered a small marble box under the entrance hall. The box, apparently placed there by workers in 1902, contained seven Indian Head pennies, newspapers reporting Pres. Theodore Roosevelt's message to Congress, and a label from a bottle of Maryland rye whisky. The box, at Truman's suggestion, was reburied with some newspapers added.
