In 1976 a capsule was removed from a hand-hewn granite vault beneath a tree in Ramapo, N.Y. Inside the capsule, which had been buried in 1876, were a few coins and stamps. Revolutionary War memorabilia, and a miniature straw hat representing the local straw hat factory.
