Notre Dame Capsule

In the cornerstone of Notre Dame's Laboratory for Germ-Free Life is a copper box containing samples of viruses, vitamins, insects, bacteria, fungi, and other lower forms of life placed there in 1947. The opening of the capsule in 2147 will complete an experiment to determine the longevity of the specimens and their ability to retain their unique properties. Also in the capsule are tissue samples from animals raised in germ-free environments. Books and articles explaining the experiments are enclosed.
