Harvey's Pyramid

William Hope "Coin" Harvey was the author of Coin's Financial School, a book on economics popular in the 1890s. Part serious thinker, part crackpot, Harvey influenced thousands, including William Jennings Bryan, the frequent candidate for president. Harvey himself ran for president in 1932, carrying the standard of the Liberty party. He was convinced, in his later years, that civilization was doomed. In the early 1930s he began building a pyramid and a nearby crypt in Board Camp, Ark., outside of Mena. They would contain the "ruins" of American civilization. Harvey died, however, before the project was completed, and the crypt was never filled with much more than contemporary periodicals.
