Richard Milhous Nixon, 37th president of the U.S. and the only chief executive to resign from office (Aug. 9, 1974), was a man of many parts--but one of them was not a gourmet's palate. Nevertheless, he whipped up a delectable dish for readers of The Saturday Evening Post.

RICHARD NIXON'S AVOCADO SALAD

Mash 2 medium-sized avocados. Stir into slightly thickened lemon Jell-O base made with

1 package lemon Jell-O

3 tablespoons lemon juice

1 1/2 cups hot water

Stir in 1 can (#2) of grapefruit sections drained, and 1/2 cup chopped celery. Chill and unmold. Serve with a whipped cream and mayonnaise mixture.
