Discovered by Dale Corson, K. R. MacKenzie, and Emilio Segre of the U.S. in 1940. The total quantity of astatine in the earth's crust probably amounts to less than 1 oz. Therefore, scientists have had to synthesize all the astatine they've needed for experimental purposes.
