About the biography of Jacob Grimm one of the greatest linguists in history and the world.

THE WORLD'S GREATEST LINGUISTS

JACOB GRIMM (1785-1863)

He formulated the philological law known as Grimm's Law, which describes "the first Germanic consonant shift" in Indo-European languages. Besides his work in comparative philology and the many languages he mastered, Grimm collected with his brother, Wilhelm, the world-famous Grimm's Fairy Tales (1812) and planned and inaugurated the great German Dictionary (1852). The dictionary was finally completed by other scholars in 1960--supposedly the world's longest literary gestation.
