1256 THE INVENTION OF GUNPOWDER

While an explosive powder was invented by the Chinese in the 10th century, the modern version was invented by an English Franciscan monk, philosopher, and experimenter named Roger Bacon. Bacon's formula for gunpowder: "41.2% of saltpeter and 29.4% each of carbon and sulphur." Gunpowder and the gun were mated in 1325.
