The longest regularly held race on ice is the Elfstedentocht. The race, held in The Netherlands, is 124 mi., 483 yds. long. Jeen van den Berg holds the speed record for the race: 7 hours 35 minutes, set on February 3, 1954.
Joseph Arenault, of Prince Edward Island, won his last speed skating trophy when he was 93 years old.
Mark Koch skated 313.5 mi. in 50 hours 26 minutes, at Greenville Community Rink in Pennsylvania on February 14, 1971. This is the longest skating marathon on record. | ||
