About the 1926 sci-fi novel The Worm Ouroboros by E.R. Eddison.

--1926. E. R. Eddison's The Worm Ouroboros implied that our earthly legends of witches, demons, imps, and goblins may have originated in races of that name living in another world. The book was a classic and beautiful romance of intrigue and adventure set on the planet Mercury by a British civil servant who either knew nothing of the actual physical conditions of the planet Mercury or simply didn't care. Major science fiction novels had seldom used Mercury for a background, and probably never would again.
