Science Fiction History: 1901 H.G. Wells First Men in the MoonSponsored Links
About the 1901 sci-fi novel the First Men in the Moon by H.G. Wells.--1901. The year that Queen Victoria died, H. G. Wells, still inventing, produced his own version of the perennial and classic theme, The First Men in the Moon. At the 1st touch of sunlight, lunar vegetation burst out and grew rapidly before one's eyes; the interior of the moon was hollow and inhabited by rather nasty "Selenites," ruled by a Grand Lunar, who--with his writhing, bladderlike brain and shriveled insectlike limbs--was even nastier. As in The War of the Worlds, Wells suggested that the aliens and mankind may have been descended from once identical beings. | ||
