Coptic Church
A theological controversy in the 5th century led to the creation of the Coptic Church, the native Christian church of Egypt. The Catholic Church held that Christ had 2 natures, human and divine. The Copts maintained that Christ had only a single divine nature. Labeled as heretics by the Church of Rome, they went their own way. Members of the Coptic Church number about one million and constitute about 60% of all Christians in Egypt. | ||
