Tomato

The tomato originated in South America, where it still grows wild, and it is a member of the widespread deadly nightshade family. Known upon its arrival in Europe as the "love apple," and "golden apple," it was thought to have aphrodisiacal properties. Containing both vitamin A and C, it wasn't considered a food in the U.S. until the middle of the 19th century. Now its use is worldwide and its versatility is unlimited. To many people, sweet, vine-ripened tomatoes with fresh basil are an unbeatable combination.
