COMPUTER PARK--Held to one run in 8 innings, the 1927 New York Yankees erupted for 4 runs at the expense of Sandy Koufax in the 9th inning to defeat the 1963 Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-1, in the 3rd game of the computerized baseball tournament.
The 4-run cluster by the '27 Yankees snapped a 1-1 tie and a pitching duel between Koufax and the Yankees' Hall of Famer Waite Hoyt.
Lou Gehrig started the rally off Koufax in the 9th with a double. A single by Tony Lazzeri, followed by triples by Joe Dugan and Earle Combs topped off the scoring.
Babe Ruth earned the Yankees a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning by solving Koufax for a home run. The Dodgers nicked Hoyt for the equalizer in the 5th on a home run by, of all people, Sandy Koufax.
