The 1st News Photographs. Mathew Brady of New York City, with the permission of Abraham Lincoln and the U.S. Secret Service, traveled with the Union Army. He took over 7,000 photos, 2,000 of which the Government bought for $25,000. They were the 1st news photographs of distinction. Brady had his own studio, Brady's Daguerrean Miniature Gallery, which he opened in 1844 at Broadway and Fulton streets in New York.
