The independent moonshiner has been largely replaced by syndicated crime operations, but some mountaineers still take pride in the old art, and a small segment of the population still has a taste for the original white lightning. "They grow up with it and it's just in their blood," says one moonshiner. He's retired now, and admits times are hard for the old-time moonshiner.
