Quarter Finals
Cerdan v. Griffith Ketchel v. Graziano Robinson v. Fitzsimmons Walker v. Greb
Cerdan-Griffith: Marcel Cerdan had Emile Griffith on the canvas in the 6th and 10th rounds as he dominated the fight. Referee Ruby Goldstein stopped it in the 10th, giving Cerdan a TKO.
Winner: Cerdan, TKO 10.
Ketchel-Graziano: Stanley Ketchel bounced Rocky Graziano for an 8 count in round one but Rocky bulled back to survive 4 more vicious knockdowns before finally failing to rise in the 11th. The fight was a free-swinging one; Ketchel was decked by the clubbing fists of Graziano twice in the 8th and once in the 10th. But the Michigan Assassin prevailed.
Winner: Ketchel, KO 11.
Robinson-Fitzsimmons: Midway through the 1st round, Sugar Ray Robinson flashed a blinding right to open a cut above Bob Fitzsimmons's eye. He continued to work on the eye in round 2 and had Ruby Bob bleeding so freely in the 3rd that the Referee awarded a TKO to Robinson.
Winner: Robinson, TKO 3.
Walker-Greb: In one of the most exciting matches of the mythical tourney, Mickey Walker edged a 15-round decision over Harry Greb on a score of 146-144. It was Walker's power punching v. Greb's hitting and footwork. Greb cut Walker in round 4 and the final rounds were toe-to-toe. But there were no knockdowns.
Winner: Walker, D.
