Biography of Potential Saint Felix de Andreis

About the potential American saint Felix de Andreis, history and biography of the missionary.

FELIX DE ANDREIS (1778-1820)

Cause. When the religious houses in Rome were suppressed, he went "underground," preaching 4 or 5 times a day. So valued was his work, that only with the personal permission of Pope Pius VII was he allowed to leave for missionary work in the U.S.

He taught theology in Bardstown, Ky., and later when the mission moved to St. Louis, Mo., he became the 1st superior of the Congregation of the Mission (Lazarists) in the U.S.

Devil's Advocate. There seems to be no "heroic virtue," except for his "underground" speeches to the theology students in Rome.

Nomination. The process was begun in 1900, and the information was forwarded to Rome in 1902.

Present Stage. No word has been heard from Rome since the data was submitted in 1902, so it appears, once again, a cause has just faded away.
