Began to have "visions" at age 57 and rejected the "mechanistic" world to devote himself to spiritual studies. Was impetus for new religious society, New Jerusalem Church, founded by his followers in 1788.
--Favored bread and butter, almonds, and cakes. Drank coffee with milk and some sweetening. Occasionally had small portions of fish and once sampled pigeon pie. Indulged in snuff-sniffing. Crusaded against meat eating because "eating the flesh of animals, considered in itself, is something profane." | ||
