His Person: French man of letters and homme d'etat. As a youth was existentialist and Marxist activist. Fought in Spanish Civil War on the side of the Loyalists and in the French resistance during W. W. II. Served as Minister of Information on General de Gaulle's staff. Was France's Minister of Culture in De Gaulle's last administration. Author of several novels. Wrote: Man's Fate, Man's Hope, Anti-Memoirs.
